Annual Characteristics and Long-Term Statistics of GRDC Time Series Data

The Annual Characteristics and Long-Term Statistics offer basic hydrological statistics of time series data of the gauging stations being represented in the Global Runoff Database.

Annual characteristics are derived from monthly discharge data, either aggregated daily data or originally provided monthly data. Long-term statistics and long-term variablity are derived from annual characteristics:

  • Q-YVD - Annual characteristics of river discharge based on original daily data: lowest, mean lowest, mean, mean highest, and highest daily discharge value in the individual calendar year, calculated from at least 10 monthly means in the year in question
  • Q-YVM - Annual characteristics of river discharge based on monthly data: lowest, mean, and highest monthly discharge value in the individual calendar year, calculated from at least 10 monthly means in the year in question
  • Q-PVD - Long-term statistics of river discharge based on original daily data: lowest, mean lowest, mean, mean highest, and highest daily discharge value in the given time series, calculated from yearly means, or the lowest and highest values of consecutive calendar years
  • Q-PVM - Long-term statistics of river discharge based on monthly data: lowest, mean, and highest monthly discharge value in the given time series, calculated from yearly means, or the lowest and highest values of consecutive calendar years
  • Q-LTVD - Seasonal variability of river discharge based on original daily data: lowest, mean, and highest daily discharge value in each calendar month in the given time series, calculated from monthly means, or the lowest and highest values in each calendar month in consecutive calendar years
  • Q-LTVM - Seasonal variability of river discharge based on monthly data: lowest, mean, and highest monthly discharge value in each calendar month in the given time series, calculated from monthly means, or the lowest and highest values of each calendar month in consecutive calendar years

Use the GRDC Data Download Portal to download the statistics of your station of interest (choose the "GRDC statistics format"). Please note, that the annual characteristics and long-term statistics are only provided for stations with time series reflecting years of at least 10 months, and months of at least 20 days.
