- 2001: Prof. Hans-Jürgen Liebscher, Chairman of the GRDC SC between 1988-2001, has retired and Dr. Klaus Wilke, Head of the Department Water Balance, Forecasting Methods of the BfG became the new chairman.
- 2003: 6th GRDC-Steering Committee met in Koblenz
- 2004: GRDC took over the continuous operation of the European Water Archive (EWA) from the British CEH. EWA is a central element of the European FRIEND project.
- 2004-2010: Development of the Global Terrestrial Network for River Discharge (GTN-R) as a GCOS baseline river discharge network. GTN-R is integral part of the Global Terrestrial Network for Hydrology (GTN-H). With GTN-R the Centre contributes to GEOSS.
- 2005: 7th meeting of the GRDC-Steering Committee in Koblenz
- 2006-2011: Development of the European Terrestrial Network for River Discharge (ETN-R) as contribution to the European Flood Alert System (EFAS) developed by EC-JRC
- 2007: Dr. Klaus Wilke, Chairman of the GRDC SC between 2001-2007, has retired and Dr. Hans Moser, Head of the Hydrology Division of the BfG became the new chairman
- 2007: 8th meeting of the GRDC-Steering Committee in Koblenz
- 14 Nov. 2008: 20th Anniversary of the GRDC
- 2009: 9th meeting of the GRDC-Steering Committee in Koblenz
- 2009: GRDC 20th Anniversary Colloquium in Koblenz
- 2009: The Head of the GRDC was appointed as a permanent co-chair of the newly established OGC Hydrology Domain Working Group of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC).
- 2010: GRDC took over the continuous operation of the Southern Africa Flow Database of the Southern Africa FRIEND project from the British CEH in Wallingford.
- 2011: 10th meeting of the GRDC-Steering Committee in Koblenz
- 2011: XVI. Congress of WMO expressed the continued need for facilitating access to hydrological observations for global studies and decided to keep Resolution 21 (Cg-XII) – Global Runoff Data Centre – in force.
