International Workshop Evaluating ecological, hydrological and spatial planning issues regarding nature-oriented flood damage prevention

The Interreg IIIB project "nature-oriented flood damage prevention" (nofdp) aims to achieve a harmonised multi-disciplinary way to combine ecological, technical and planning aspects while realising future flood management projects. To facilitate such an approach, an Information and Decision Support System (IDSS) will be developed. This tool shall guide water managers and decision makers and help to optimise the pre-planning process. An important function will be to facilitate communication between all stakeholders.

The key function of the planned nofdp IDSS will be a tool to evaluate the impact of alterations (measures, changes in morphology, land-use or climate) on ecology, water (flood) management, and spatial planning. To address all important aspects, a multi-disciplinary approach is needed also including socio-economic aspects. The overall goal of the workshop is to identify appropriate indicators and methods for evaluation.

Therefore, we want to invite ecologist, hydrologists, water managers, economists and spatial planners working in flood management with special expertise in the field of evaluation. In order to stimulate an open and fruitful discussion the workshop will consist of short thematic lectures followed by extensive discussions.
