Webcam Rhine and Moselle

Fortress Ehrenbreitstein is an ideal location to view the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers at the Deutsches Eck in Koblenz. Our webcam is positioned approximately 100 meters (300 feet) above the water level, and every minute a new picture of the scenery is supplied. The difference in the colours of the water is often striking, especially when the water levels vary. The cause of the different colours is due to the different amounts of suspended particles in the water.

Two water quality monitoring stations belonging to the Federal Institute of Hydrology are located approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) upstream of the Deutsches Eck on the Rhine and Moselle Rivers. At the stations, several measurements are taken, such as turbidity, which is used as an indicator for the amount of suspended particles in the water. The measured values are updated four times a day and can be found on our homepage.

The current water level can also be seen at a glance from the webcam. When the water level reaches seven meters at the gauge Koblenz, the triangular area in front of Kaiser Wilhelm I starts to become flooded.

Our Webcam is kindly supported by the Administration "Burgen-Schlösser-Altertümer" of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Landesmuseum Koblenz.
