Acquisition of River Discharge Data

GRDC's data acquisition is based on the WMO Resolution 21 (Cg-XII-1995) and the WMO Resolution 25 (Cg-XIII-1999). The National Hydrological Services of the WMO Member States are its principal data providers. GRDC is in contact with a large number of national and trans-national bodies in the field of operational hydrology in the form of

  • project-related written requests for data
  • contacts obtained during conferences, workshops & meetings
  • circular support letters of the WMO Secretary General
  • visits of institutions responsible for the collection and processing of hydrologic data

The main focus is on the update and extension of the set of station and discharge data currently represented in the Global Runoff Database. In the framework of international early-warning projects like EFAS of EC-JRC, GRDC also collects real-time data. In this context, the Centre acts as a clearinghouse for automated collecting, harmonising and re-distributing of hydrologic data in near real-time.
