Webcam Rhine and Mosel

Fortress Ehrenbreitstein is an ideal location to view the confluence of the Rhine and Mosel Rivers at the Deutsches Eck in Koblenz. The BfG-webcam is positioned approximately 100 meters (300 feet) above the water level, and every minute a new picture of the scenery is supplied. The difference in the colours of the water is often striking, especially when the water levels vary. The cause of the different colours is due to the different amounts of suspended particles in the water.

Two water quality monitoring stations belonging to the Federal Institute of Hydrology are located approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) upstream of the Deutsches Eck on the Rhine and Mosel Rivers. At the stations, several measurements are taken, such as turbidity, which is used as an indicator for the amount of suspended particles in the water. The measured values are updated four times a day and can be found on the BfG-homepage.

The current water level can also be seen at a glance from the webcam. When the triangular area in front of Kaiser Wilhelm I becomes flooded, you will know that the water level of the Rhine has reached seven meters at the gauge Koblenz.

The BfG-webcam is kindly supported by the Administration "Burgen-Schlösser-Altertümer" of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Landesmuseum Koblenz.
